P.J. Hoerr Sponsors | Military Patriot Award at Goodwill’s Reception of Honor

On October 10^th P.J. Hoerr was honored to be able to sponsor and present the Military Patriot Award at Goodwill’s Reception of Honor. This award acknowledges an outstanding, currently serving military member who has shown incredible courage, determination and leadership to fulfill his or her duties. At the reception P.J. Hoerr CEO Bob Hoerr was privileged to present this award to Captain Daniel G Curtin. Bob’s remarks concerning Capt. Curtin’s accomplishments and the pictures of the recipient are as follows:

The Military Patriot Award acknowledges an outstanding, currently serving military member, who has shown incredible courage and determination to fulfill his or her duties. In addition, this individual works diligently to find ways to assure that services and support systems are in place for all military veterans, now and in the future. The recipient of this Award was nominated by Lt. Col. Brian Filler and was outstanding enough to be selected as this year’s winner. I would ask that Captain Daniel G. Curtin join me at the podium.

Lt. Col. Filler stated in his letter of nomination that Captain Curtin distinguished himself in the performance of outstanding service to the United States while assigned to the 169^th Air Support Operations Squadron, 182^nd Airlift Wing. He has completed four combat tours with two in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. Although listing all of his achievements is too long to share with you tonight, here are some of the highlights:

1. During the training period for a combat deployment, he formulated and executed an aggressive training plan which resulted in 25 Battlefield airmen obtaining mission ready status six weeks ahead of schedule & propelled the squadron to the highest readiness seen to date.

2. Upon return from deployment, he wrote and implemented the operations training plan for 60 unit personnel, consisting of an annual training period and 20 Close Air Support training trips, which maintained the squadron’s wartime efficiency.

3. Captain Curtin was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor for his actions during combat in Afghanistan in 2003. When lives were at stake and while under enemy fire, Capt. Curtin performed with his mission, coordinated assets and directed airstrikes which ultimately saved lives. 

4. As a testament to his professional excellence in the military community, he was selected by senior leadership to be the Weapons and Tactics Committee Chair in 2013.

5. Captain Curtin not only has excelled in his military duties but also completed his MBA from the University of Illinois with a GPA of 3.9.

6. Captain Curtin has also excelled in supporting veterans, specifically his work with the Jake Frazier memorial run. Proceeds from the run are donated to the TACP Association, which makes grants to service members and veterans.
