Benchmark Cabinets and Millwork Corporate Website Launched!

P.J. Hoerr, Inc has been in business as a contractor in the Central Illinois area since 1914.  We began as a concrete block manufacturing and concrete pouring and paving contractor.  Over the years the business began to diversify into different directions. One of the major areas of emphasis has been its development and growth in the arena of healthcare construction. In 2002 it became apparent that there was a lack of high quality, schedule conscious cabinet and casework contractors in the area. The decision was made by the ownership of P.J. Hoerr to form a separate entity devoted to the manufacturing of commercial casework and cabinetry. The name Benchmark was selected and a manufacturing facility was purchased from the former Lewis Cabinets company on Jefferson Avenue in Peoria, IL. As the business continued to expand over the years the decision was made in 2007 to build a new, modern stand-alone facility just down the road from the P.J. Hoerr corporate headquarters. Today, Benchmark serves the casework needs of not only P.J. Hoerr but numerous other commercial contractors and facilities as well.

P.J. Hoerr Quarterly Company Overview & Safety Meeting - Morton, IL

On Thursday, June 13th P.J. Hoerr/Summit held their second company overview and safety meeting for 2013 at The Ashland House in Morton. There were 115 total in attendance. A buffet dinner was served. Company CEO Bob Hoerr opened the meeting with an overview of current and upcoming projects for the balance of the year. He stated that despite the slower start to the year things were breaking loose in a big way and urged everyone to work cooperatively with PJH operations manager Nick Hart to help address the manpower challenges that would be arising over the coming months. He also urged everyone to be proactive in dealing with the anticipated high heat conditions of the coming weeks. The meeting was then turned over to corporate Director of Safety Hans Hinrichsen. Hans gave a verbal and pictorial overview of the PJH/Summit safety records to date. It was stated that PJH had now gone 228 days without a lost time accident and 131 days without an OSHA recordable incident. Summit was shown to have gone 386 days and 54 days respectively. Hans applauded the team for their excellent record and urged everyone to sustain the intensity of effort. Hans then gave a pictorial overview of a confined space operation at OSF hospital. He then announced the formation of the new PJH/Summit safety committee and urged everyone to bring ideas and suggestions and concerns to the committee for consideration and action. Superintendent safety incentive checks were handed out after which Hans introduced Bill Nienebar, Loss Control Director from West Bend Insurance, the Workers Comp and General Liability insurance carrier for PJH. Bill gave an informative talk on what constitutes a good safety program and what constitutes a bad one. He concluded his presentation with a video presentation on electrical and power line safety. Bob Hoerr gave a brief closing talk on the power of regret in the personal and work lives of individuals. He stressed the particularly strong potential for regret when it comes to job site safety. He concluded by reciting a poem written by a former safety director based on a real life experience entitled "I Could Have Saved A Life That Day."
